I’ve been travelling almost constantly for over 30 years, and if there is one thing I am grateful for its comprehensive travel insurance. I’ve used several different companies and a range of policies and the best travel insurance for Bali, in my experience, is Global Nomads. I’ve used their policies for the past 3 years and after making several stress-free claims I’m convinced it’s the best policy on the market.
2022 Update: Special Insurance Policy Available for Travellers to Bali
There is a new travel insurance policy specifically for travellers to Indonesia. This was included in my recent newsletter, so if you haven’t subscribed yet, you can do so below.
Global Nomads, my preferred travel insurance provider still isn’t issuing new policies since they ceased during the Covid pandemic. I will notify you in my newsletter when they resume – which I hope is soon – because they were awesome.
Is travel insurance worth it?
There’s a saying “if you can’t afford travel insurance then you can’t afford to travel”. It’s true. I’ve had friends and fellow travellers regale me with stories of thinking medical treatment is cheap, especially in a place like Bali, when they strike medical issues.
I can tell you from first-hand, hard-earned experience that travelling without insurance is like playing Russian Roulette. You probably won’t need it, but if something goes wrong having it means being able to access the insurer’s global network of expert assistance and health providers 24 hours a day.
Buy travel insurance online.
There are many insurance policies you can buy online, but to my knowledge Global Nomads is one of the only (if not the only) company where I can buy online even when travelling while away from my home country.
Most insurance providers will only allow purchasing a policy from within your home country, which isn’t much use when your travel plans change or you are travelling for an extended period of time.
You can complete any claims simply and easily online from wherever you are and Global Nomads policies are available to people from over 130 countries. It’s designed for travellers with cover for overseas medical, evacuation, baggage and more.
Buy coverage for only the countries you are travelling to.
One of the best features is being able to buy coverage for the specific countries you are travelling to. This is a huge feature as the premiums will change significantly if you apply for a select set of countries, as opposed to buying blanket coverage, which by definition will be more expensive.
Flexible coverage for changes on the go.
One of the other features I really like is the ability to update my policy while on the go to account for a change in itinerary and include more countries should my travel aspirations get bigger – which they often do :)
Insure for adventure activities.
From skiing & snowboarding in New Zealand to whitewater rafting in Colorado, WorldNomads.com covers a range of adventure activities, giving you peace of mind to get the most from your travels.
Get an instant quote.
Another thing about travel insurance for Bali or elsewhere is that Global Nomads only needs your intended list of countries, home country, travel dates and age. That’s it. Use this quote form to generate an instant quote for your holiday.
Cheaper than airlines.
You will most likely have seen the checkbox while booking airfares with your airline selling travel insurance. This is a great earner for the airlines, and by definition is more expensive than buying directly because they make a margin on the sale of your policy.
Disclaimer: I only endorse products and services I personally use and believe are the best. I have a travel insurance policy (don’t leave home without it) and have an affiliate partnership with Global Nomads which pays me a small commission from referrals from this website. It isn’t much but does help to offset the cost of writing for Bali Holiday Secrets as a passion project. You can help by using the form above or sharing this page with your friends and family who are looking for the best travel insurance for Bali. I hope you have the perfect Bali holiday!
