South Bali to Ubud Transfer + East Bali Day Tour

This awesome tour is perfect for those wanting to transfer hotels from South Bali to Ubud but pack in a full day of sightseeing as well (there is an option to return to South Bali). It takes in some of the best temples in Bali with optional stops at Tegenungan or Tukad Cepung Waterfalls, Virgin Beach or a longer itinerary for those who also want to visit Lepuyang Temple at the northernmost point of the tour.

I made this tour because so many people ask me for a transfer from South Bali to Ubud but want to see some attractions along the way. If you are transferring to Ubud this is perfect because it then sets you up for a North Bali tour the following day.

Most people make the mistake of trying to fit too much in without realising just how long it takes to go as far as this tour takes you. That’s why you can’t fit them all in. It’s pointless planning on visiting some attractions in the afternoon (like Gunung Kawi or Tirta Empul) only to arrive so late they are closed.

The day is flexible so if you want to make changes to your itinerary on the day just talk with your driver, and he will help make the tour the best it can be for you depending on what you feel like and how long you want to spend at each attraction.

I have personally vetted all the drivers I work with. They text me when they pick you up and again when you have been dropped off at the end of the day. I also email your driver’s name, profile photo, vehicle photo and phone number beforehand to ensure your safety and provide confidence.

Itinerary 1: Waterfall + Temples + Ubud

If you want to see one waterfall in Bali this is a great choice because Tegenungan is relatively close. It’s also one of the more accessible waterfalls with paved concrete steps most of the way to the riverbed, and you can still get great views of the waterfall without going all the way to the bottom.

It is still a bit of walking from the car park to the waterfall, but probably one of the easiest waterfalls in Bali to get to.

If you want something different try Bali Bird Park as your first stop which opens at 9:00 AM and is on the way to Tegenungan Waterfall.

Itinerary 2: Virgin Beach + Temples + Ubud

This is my favourite option, as you get to see Mt Agung in the distance over the amazing ricefields of the Sideman District and take in my favourite temples, Tirta Gangga, also known as the Water Palace and Gunung Kawi.

If you’re looking for a more adventurous waterfall, then this tour includes Tukad Cepung Waterfall, which is made famous for the sunlight pouring in over the edge, however, this effect is only at its most photogenic for an hour or so in the morning, and you won’t get there until the afternoon, but it’s still worth the visit in my opinion. Requires mid-level fitness.

  • Virgin Beach
  • Tirta Gangga
  • Tukad Cepung Waterfall (optional)
  • Gunung Kawi
  • Tirta Empul
  • Tegallalang Rice Teraces
  • Drop-off in Ubud
  • Optional return to South Bali

Itinerary 3: Lempuyang + Temples + Ubud

If you want to go all the way up to Lempuyang Temple you will need to go straight there without time to stop at the beach. If you want to see the sunrise over Lempuyang you must choose a 4:30 AM pickup time. I also have a speciality Lempuyang Sunrise tour, but that doesn’t go to Ubud.

  • Lempuyang Temple
  • Tirta Gangga
  • Gunung Kawi
  • Tirta Empul
  • Tegallalang Rice Teraces
  • Drop-off in Ubud
  • Optional return to South Bali

What is and isn’t included?

  • Toyota Avanza/Xenia or similar 6-seater SUV w/ air-con
  • Fuel & taxes
  • English-speaking driver
  • Up to 10 hours of driving time (12 hrs for the Lempuyang option)
  • The driver waits at all attractions for you
  • Flexible itinerary – make changes during the day

Also includes tickets for the shuttle bus from Lempuyang Temple car park and temple entrance fees.

If you go over the allocated number of hours you can simply pay your driver the extra IDR 100k per hour or part thereof directly, so you don’t have to worry about cutting your day short if you’re still enjoying the trip.

Not Included:

  • Entrance fees or event tickets
  • Meals and refreshments

  1. Hi Michael ,
We will be a family of 4 adults and 2 children 5 & 7 with luggage . Firstly needing a transfer to the Grand Mirage Nusa Dua ( ,staying 4 nights ) and then a trip and dropoff to Ubud on one of the tours ( staying 2 nights so will have luggage ) and then a transfer back to Canngu with luggage ( staying 2 nights) and then back to the airport . This would be in September so planning early . Will need a vehicle that works for this and your advice please . Will be adding some day trips at these locations so they could be in an suv as they would be without luggage .
    Thanks in advance

    • Hi Peter,

On the days you’ll be traveling with luggage, I would suggest selecting the minivan option.

For your Airport transfer to Grand Mirage in Nusa Dua: Bali Airport Transfer with Minivan
For the day trip and drop off to Ubud, I would suggest a Bali Minivan Rental (you can request to your driver to dropoff in Ubud)
For your transfer from Ubud to Canggu, you can book a Hotel Transfer to South Bali
Regarding your return transfer, you can actually book both airport transfers in the first booking.

For the other trips, your family should be fine in the regular SUV or the Innova (slightly larger).

      Hope this helps!
      Safe travels,
      Michael

  2. Hi Michael,

We would like to book a driver on 3 different days for various things: transfer from Jimbaran to Ubud with a stop off, a half day tour around Ubud, and a transfer back to the airport. Is there a way to book these together and request the same driver? Also, if we do a stopoff between hotels, will the bags be ok in the car?
    Thank you!

    • Hi Gabriela,

It’s best to book these on their individual forms. This way we have your details for each and not have them mixed up for the driver.

For Transfer from Jimbaran to Ubud, you’ll be booking a Hotel Transfer from South Bali
For the half day tour around Ubud, you’ll be booking a Private Car & Driver Half Day Hire
And for your Return transfer to Bali Ngurah Rai Airport from Ubud, you’ll be booking a Transfer to Bali Airport

The forms are quite simple to fill out, takes less than 3 mins.
After the bookings are received, I’ll ensure you’re assigned the same driver.
Regarding the bags, they will be safe with the driver and the car, no need to worry.

      Safe travels,
      Michael

  3. Hi Michael – Thank you so much for all of your detailed information and suggestions. It’s making the travel planning process so much easier. A few questions:
    1) Is it OK to do the South Bali to Ubud Tour in reverse?
    2) Is Tirta Empul worth visiting if you don’t plan to bathe?
    3) Do the tour drivers provide information about the places that you’re visiting or do they just drop you off & pick you up?

    • Hi Kathryn, yes you can do it in reverse, and yes Tirta Empul is still worth a visit (its also quite close to Gunung Kawi). And your driver can tell you a lot about places but doesn’t go into the attractions with you, as they must drop you off, park in whatever designated area and await your return.

      Safe travels, Michael
