Movenpick Resort & Spa: A Deep Dive into Bali’s Top Family Resort

If you’re looking at Mövenpick Resort & Spa Jimbaran, chances are you’re trying to figure out one simple thing. Is it actually worth staying here, or is it just another polished resort with nice photos?

I stayed here and put the resort to the test properly. Rooms, breakfast, pools, spa, food, beach access, and what a full day really looks like if you don’t leave the property.

This review is based on entirely my own experience at Movenpick Bali, with the stuff future you will genuinely care about when deciding where to book.

If you’re weighing this up for a family trip, a relaxed Bali stay, or just want a resort where everything is easy and well organised, this guide will help you decide without overthinking it.

About Movenpick Resort

Mövenpick is a Swiss hotel brand, now part of the Accor group, and this Jimbaran resort very much plays in the 5-star luxury lane without going full wallet assault.

It’s a popular choice for families visiting Bali with kids, and once you’re there, it’s pretty obvious why. It’s built around multiple interconnected pools, with loads of shallow space and kid-friendly zones.

You can relax while the little ones have fun, without constantly doing lifeguard duty. It feels designed for families rather than just tolerating them.

That family focus isn’t accidental either. The resort has been a multiple-time winner at the World Travel Awards, including recognition as Best Family Resort in Bali.

The location is an easy 5-minute walk to the beach, so you’re close enough to feel the coast. This is ideal if you want beach time without paying “Bali beachside” prices.

It’s one of those places where you actually feel like you’re getting what you paid for, which is rarer than it should be in the 5-star category.

First Impressions at Movenpick

movenpick bali review - first impressions

From the moment I arrived, things felt smooth. You’re handed a welcome drink while the staff sort out the booking, which already puts you in holiday mode before you’ve even touched a key card.

The lobby is grand. Huge open space, high ceilings, and a massive balcony overlooking the entire resort. It makes a strong first impression without feeling stiff or overly formal.

Within five minutes, we were in the room. Everything felt well thought out. You can tell Mövenpick Bali isn’t new to this. The brand’s been around since 1948 and they clearly know what works.

We stayed in one of the standard rooms, and honestly, it was more than comfortable. Nothing flashy for the sake of it, just solid design, good space, and everything where you expect it to be.

movenpick bali resort review

As for the rest of the resort, it’s very much a classic resort vibe, and I mean that in a good way. It’s the kind of place where you don’t feel a strong urge to leave.

The pool is extremely inviting, and we spent pretty much every free moment either in the water or stretched out in the sun.

Movenpick Bali’s staff was on point with everything. From check-in to housekeeping to the security guards, everyone was polite, helpful, and genuinely welcoming.

Now, to be fair, this is not a small boutique hotel. It’s big. That’s probably my only real complaint. In some moments I was just too lazy to walk all the way back to my room. But not a deal-breaker.

All in, it was a really pleasant experience with a strong family atmosphere. Even though we weren’t there with kids, we never felt out of place, which says a lot about how well Movenpick balances its crowd.

Movenpick Bali Location

movenpick bali location in jimbaran

Mövenpick Resort & Spa is located in Jimbaran, right next to Muaya Beach (Pantai Muaya), one of the best areas to stay in Bali close to the airport.

If you’re plugging it into Google Maps, the exact pin is: 6577+PG Jimbaran, Badung Regency, Bali, Indonesia.

This stretch of Jimbaran is known for high-end resorts and big-name hotels, so the drive in already feels polished. You’ll pass a few familiar luxury brands on the way, which sets expectations early.

From Bali Airport, it’s roughly 20 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic. That alone makes it a great choice if you don’t want to start or end your trip with a long commute.

Jimbaran itself is well placed in South Bali. Nusa Dua and Uluwatu are a short drive away Kuta, Seminyak, and Canggu sit further north and are doable, just not next door.

Overall, Movenpick Bali’s location feels contained without being isolated. Close to the airport, close to the beach, and well connected to the rest of South Bali.

The Rooms at Movenpick Bali

movenpick bali rooms

Let’s talk rooms, because this is where you’ll be based for most of your trip. The rooms at Movenpick Bali can be broken down into four main types:

  • Classic Pool View
Entry-level rooms with everything you actually need. King bed, good space, and views over the pool area.
  • Junior Suite
Slightly larger than the classic rooms, with a small seating area. Nice if you want a bit more room to relax indoors.
  • Family Duplex (with or without pool view)
Mezzanine-style layout designed for families. King bed plus a sofa bed setup, with clear separation between sleeping areas.
  • Premium Suite
Essentially an apartment-style setup. Separate bedroom and living room, and ideal for longer stays or anyone who likes extra space.

We stayed in the Classic Pool View room and had no complaints at all. The small terrace overlooking the pools was a great spot in the morning or late afternoon.

The king bed was very comfortable, and the pillows were impressively soft. My partner kept raving about them, which says enough.

For facilities, the room comes with a bathtub, bathrobes, toiletries, a mini fridge, plenty of storage space, and complimentary bottled water.

The TV includes Netflix and a few other premium entertainment apps, although realistically, you’ll probably spend more time by the pool than watching movies.

Overall, even the standard rooms feel well thought out. Comfortable, practical, and exactly what you want from a 5-star resort stay without unnecessary extras.

A Day at Movenpick Resort

To give you a real feel for what staying here is like, this is one full day I spent without leaving the Movenpick resort area, times and all.

  • 7:00 am – Morning gym session
Started the day with a fasted session at the gym to get in the groove. A good excuse to enjoy breakfast guilt-free.
  • 8:00 am – Breakfast at Anarasa Restaurant
Easy, unrushed start to the morning. Big buffet and plenty of choices, which I’ll break down properly in the breakfast section below.
  • 9:00 am – Pool time
This is where the day slows right down. The pool calls your name, and once you’re in, it’s hard to leave. Sun, water, repeat.
  • 11:30 am – Treatment at Arkipela Spa
Perfect timing after a few hours in the sun. Quick reset before lunch and a good way to cool off.
  • 1:30 pm – Lunch at Mövenpick Cafe
Kept it light and simple. No need to leave the resort or change out of pool mode.
  • 4:30 pm – Walk at Muaya Beach
A short stroll for a change of scenery. You’re back before the evening rush kicks in.
  • 5:30 pm – Barong dance at Samasta Lifestyle Village
Easy (and free) entertainment right next door, especially nice if you don’t feel like organising transport to somewhere else.
  • 6:00 pm – Sunset dinner at Adriana Cocina & Bar
Proper food, rooftop views, and a relaxed atmosphere as the sun goes down.
  • 8:00 pm – Cocktails
Same spot. One or two tequila margaritas to properly wash down dinner and call it a night.
  • 9:00 pm – Bathtub and wind-down
Back in the room for a long soak. End of day, done properly.

If I had to sum it up, the whole day was basically eat, swim, relax, repeat. And that’s exactly what Movenpick Bali Resort does well. It makes staying in feel like a good decision, not a lazy one.

Movenpick Bali Breakfast

Let’s talk breakfast, because for a lot of people, this is a big deciding factor when choosing where to stay in Bali. You’re on holiday after all. Indulgence needs planning.

Breakfast is included with all room bookings, which already takes some pressure off your daily budget. You’ll be eating at Anarasa Restaurant, the on-site restaurant downstairs near the pool.

It’s served as an all-you-can-eat buffet, with clearly separated stations. Drinks, pastries, fruit, and an egg station where you order eggs exactly how you want them.

Cuisine-wise, it’s a solid mix. You’ll find Asian, Indonesian, and Western options, with a few unexpected extras thrown in. Yes, there was hummus. Yes, I took more than I should.

This is where breakfast really shines for me. My partner and I both try to eat fairly healthy, but we have absolutely no discipline when it comes to buffets.

Somehow, we left breakfast every morning full but feeling guilt-free. Everything tasted clean, light, and easy on the stomach.

It’s also not a fully DIY situation. There’s plenty of staff around clearing plates, answering questions, and generally keeping things moving smoothly. No awkward stacking plates or hunting for cutlery.

Aside from the pastries, this isn’t the kind of breakfast where you load your plate with everything in sight and regret it later.

You can easily curate your plate, try something different each morning, and still feel like the gym next door is optional, not mandatory.

In summary, the breakfast at Movenpick Bali is one of those that actually supports a relaxed holiday rhythm instead of sabotaging it before 9 AM hits.

🍽️ My plate: Scoop of nasi goreng, omelette, bacon, beef sausages, streamed veggies, falafels, and hummus, with a slice of gluten-free carrot cake. Don’t judge. This is post-workout.

⚠️ One thing to note, the restaurant gets packed after 8 AM. If you’re antisocial, shy, or prefer to eat without a crowd, come earlier to get better seating choices.

The Swimming Pools

movenpick bali resort swimming pools

The pool setup here is one of the Movenpick Bali’s biggest highlights. There are several pools all interconnected, so you can literally swim from one area to the next without getting out.

Everything is kept fairly shallow, which makes it feel relaxed and safe (especially for the kids) rather than intimidating.

One corner features a sandy beach-style pool, complete with actual sand in the water. It sounds gimmicky, but it’s surprisingly fun and very popular with kids.

There are also dedicated kids’ zones scattered around. Floating play equipment, soft obstacle-style water toys, and a small mini waterpark area keep younger guests busy for hours.

For the grown-ups, things are equally well placed There’s Jejala Pool Bar with a sandy island-style seating area, and on the other side, a swim-up bar where you can order drinks without ever leaving the water.

Towels are all taken care of. There’s a staffed towel kiosk by the pool, so you don’t need to drag towels down from your room or worry about returning them later.

Basically, the pool area is exactly what you want from a resort like this. Easy, social, family-friendly, and just indulgent enough to make you forget what time it is.

Arkipela Spa at Movenpick

The spa here is called Arkipela Spa & Wellness, and it’s a proper one. With the top spot on Tripadvisor’s Best Spas in Jimbaran, it’s exactly what you’d expect from place literally named Mövenpick Resort & Spa.

First surprise. This isn’t some small retail-style spa squeezed into a little retail corner. It’s a full setup, quiet, well designed, and instantly relaxing.

Before the treatment starts, you choose between three massage oils: hydrating, relaxing, or energizing. Since it was midday and we weren’t ready to fully switch off yet, we went with energizing oil.

While filling out a short health form, they offer you a small welcome drink, some kind of healthy shot. No clue what was in it, but it set the tone nicely.

We booked the Traditional Sasak treatment, a 60-minute massage. It starts with a five minute foot scrub, then moves into the massage itself.

They ask what areas to focus on, what to avoid, and how strong you want it. I went heavy on upper back and neck thanks to desk life.

I almost fell asleep twice. By the end, my body felt properly worked. Slightly sore, but in a good way. Even muscles I didn’t know existed clearly got involved, (my toe muscles were sore?!).

If you’re even considering a spa session during your stay, this one’s worth it. These therapists clearly didn’t come off a 2-week massage course in Thailand. They knew exactly what they were doing.

Movenpick Bali Gym

movenpick bali gym

There is a gym at Movenpick Bali. Not a full-scale commercial fitness center, but more than enough to burn some calories and fatigue a few muscle fibres.

In terms of equipment, it’s solid. You’ll find Life Fitness and Torque machines, which are reputable brands and a nice step up from the usual resort filler no-name equipment.

Peak time is before and right after breakfast. Later in the day, it’s practically empty. Learn from my mistake and save your workout for later if you want the place to yourself.

Official hours are roughly 6:00 am to 11:00 pm, but if you’re a night owl, you can still use it outside those times. You just need to request access from the staff.

👉 Pro tip: Use the endless rope machine if you want to torch calories quickly. As a gym rat myself, it’s a rare find anywhere in Bali and way more effective than it looks at first glance.

Beach Access at Movenpick

While Movenpick Bali isn’t directly on the sand, the beach is very close. It’s about a 5-minute walk, and the access is easy.

You exit from the back of the resort and follow a short paved path straight down to the beach. No guessing, no awkward detours.

One small detail I really liked. There’s a security guard at the exit, and if you need beach towels, they’ll sort you out on the spot. Just another example of the resort thinking things through.

The beach you’ll end up on is Muaya Beach. It’s fairly local and noticeably less touristy than many other Bali beaches. It sits just south of Jimbaran Beach and is known for seafood and sunsets.

There isn’t a whole lot to do here in terms of activities, but it’s perfect if you want a short escape from the resort vibe, a sunset walk, or a quiet moment by the ocean before heading back in.

Restaurants at Movenpick Bali

Eating well is not a problem here. Whether you want a full sit-down meal, a casual café stop, or sunset drinks with a view, the resort covers it without forcing you to leave the area.

What I liked most is that the dining options don’t feel repetitive. Each spot has a different vibe, so you’re not eating the same meal in a different room every night.

You can keep things relaxed during the day, then step it up in the evening without changing locations or organising transport.

Anarasa Restaurant

Anarasa is Mövenpick Bali’s main restaurant, located just below the lobby area. It has both indoor seating and a patio, and this is where you’ll be coming for the daily breakfast buffet.

The ambiance matches what you get upstairs in the lobby. It’s grand, slightly on the fancy side, and leans more toward a fine-dining feel than a casual restaurant.

The menu is quite varied. You’ll find a mix of Western and Indonesian dishes, along with pastas, soups, and even a small sushi selection depending on the day.

👉 Make your way here for Chocolate Hour at 4:00 pm. It’s included with your stay and lets you sample bite-sized chocolates and chocolate-flavoured snacks.

Movenpick Cafe

movenpick bali cafe

Mövenpick Cafe is located next door in Samasta Lifestyle Village, and it’s a genuinely cozy spot with a stereotypical European cafe vibe.

Most people come here for proper coffee, Swiss-style ice creams, and pastries. It’s the kind of place you stop by casually and end up staying longer than planned.

We didn’t do breakfast here, but we did have lunch, and it was surprisingly good and filling. Definitely worth checking the menu rather than treating it as just a coffee stop.

One funny detail: Those pastries on display look almost too perfect. I genuinely thought they were fake props at first. Turns out they’re very real, and very dangerous if you lack self-control.

Adriana Cocina & Bar

adriana rooftop bar at movenpick bali

Adriana Cocina & Bar ended up being one of our favourite dining experiences during the stay. It’s located on the 8th floor above Samasta, and being a rooftop spot, it’s a prime sunset location.

The whole place leans heavily into a Mexican aesthetic, and the menu follows suit. It’s colourful, stylish, and yes, very Instagram-friendly if that’s your thing.

Food-wise, it’s done properly. The head chef, Geraldo, is Mexican, which shows in the flavours. Nothing felt watered down or adapted entirely for tourists.

I went for a few different tacos and paired them with tequila-based cocktails, which felt like the correct life choice at the time.

This isn’t a place to go hard on the drinks, but it’s a great spot to end the day. Good food, good views, relaxed atmosphere, and the kind of ambiance that makes you slow down.

Restaurants Near Movenpick Bali

If you want more food options without going far, Samasta Lifestyle Village is your best bet. It’s right next door and has a solid mix of casual and sit-down spots.

At Samasta Lifestyle Village:

  • Wahaha Pork Ribs – Famous for ribs, messy in a good way
  • Barrels Steakhouse – Steaks and heavier Western plates
  • Foek Lam Bali – Chinese-Indonesian comfort food
  • Bebek Bengil – Crispy duck, Bali classic
  • Gaya Gelato – Post-dinner gelato stop
  • Dough Darlings – Coffee and donuts if dessert is non-negotiable

If you feel like stepping outside the resort area, there are even more good options within a short walk or quick drive:

  • PepeNero Jimbaran – Reliable Italian, good gluten free pizzas
  • Sandpiper Bali – Casual cafe with a relaxed vibe
  • L’Osteria Pizza e Cucina – Straightforward Italian comfort food
  • Bendino Steak & Wine House – Steak and wine focused, quieter atmosphere
  • Pizzeria Romana Bali – Authentic Italian pizza
  • Menega Cafe – Legendary seafood spot on the beach

Between Samasta and the surrounding streets, you won’t feel locked into resort dining at all. Plenty of choice, minimal effort.

Samasta Lifestyle Village

Samasta Lifestyle Village is directly connected to Mövenpick Bali, which makes it ridiculously convenient.

Think of it as an open-air plaza and outlet-style village, not a full-scale shopping mall. You’re not coming here to shop for hours.

Alongside the restaurants mentioned above, you’ll find a handful of souvenir stalls, a few small shops, and plenty of outdoor seating. It’s casual, walkable, and doesn’t feel overwhelming.

One nice bonus is the daily cultural performances held in the main courtyard around sunset. They’re completely free, and if it’s too early for dinner, grabbing a gelato and a seat is an easy way to kill some time.
