Mount Batur Sunset Trek

While some seek experiencing the sunrise from Mount Batur, others prefer to watch the sunset. This Mount Batur Sunset Trek booking is for those who prefer to end the day watching the orange sun descend over Bali’s landscape.

This booking is an alternative to those who don’t want to wake up early for the Mount Batur Sunrise Trek or the Mount Batur Sunrise Jeep Tour. It’s more of a reverse itinerary. Meaning, you’ll need to visit other destinations in Kintamani before your Batur sunset trek.

Batur Sunset Trek Itinerary

I suggest leaving from your hotel or around 10:00 am. This gives you some time to get to Kintamani, explore some destinations, and head to the meeting point at Toya Bungkah.

You’ll need to be at the meeting point by 3:00 – 3:45 pm. Here is where you’ll get a briefing, detailing the hike and some safety measures. Your climb begins around 4:00 pm. It takes about 2 hours to get to the summit of Mount Batur.

While you’re enjoying the sunset on the summit, you’ll be provided a simple meal. Don’t expect anything fancy – a banana, some eggs, bread, and coffee or tea. You’re not obligated to eat this and I would recommend waiting to eat something more satiating at a restaurant after your trek, or bring something with you.

You should be back at the meeting point around 8:30 pm. From here, you can choose to have your driver take you to a restaurant of your preference, or back to your hotel or villa if you’re exhausted from the trek.

Optional Destinations

Here are some destinations I recommend based on what’s popular among my guests during the Mount Batur Sunset Trek tour. Remember, you’ll need to visit these prior to your trek, but the order of stops and itinerary is entirely to you.

Toya Bungkah Hot Springs

A popular destination during a visit to Mount Batur, right on the shores of the lake, Danau Batur. The cost of the hot springs is 350k IDR per person. A bit on the pricier end but includes swimming, towel, and a locker.

Coffee & Tea Plantation

You can also have your driver take you to one of several coffee & tea plantations in Kintamani where you can see how the local coffee farming is done and try a huge selection of coffee – for free! This is a good spot to grab some souvenirs for coffee lovers. Otherwise, you aren’t obligated to buy anything.

Visit an Instagrammable Cafe

The views from Kintamani are some of the most picturesque, which is why loads of cafes have popped up in the past few years to secure the best spot overlooking the mountain, giving you some gorgeous photos for Instagram. Many of these cafes are lined up beside each other on the main road and most of them offer the same experience so you shouldn’t have a hard time picking one.

What’s Included

Unlike many other providers that offer “shuttle service” to and from your hotel or villa, which is normally shared transportation with strangers for the ride to Mount Batur, this is a fully private booking.

Meaning, you’ll have your own private car and driver for the entirety of the trip – 12 hours. You’ll be picked from your hotel or villa by a friendly, English-speaking driver, in a well-maintained, air-conditioned SUV, and taken to East Bali.

Included in your Batur Sunset Trek booking:

  • Private SUV
  • 12 hours of allocated time
  • English-speaking driver
  • Vehicle fuel
  • Applicable taxes
  • Private guide for the trek
  • Entry fees to Kintamani
  • Simple breakfast
  • Headlamps
  • Walking poles

Not Included:

  • Entrance fees to other attractions
  • Tickets to events (if any)
  • Meals at restaurants of your choosing

Mount Batur Sunset Trek Checklist

As someone who has taken on some of the greatest treks in the world, it always surprises me to see people completely unprepared for a trek. Yes, there are tourists who decide to try the Mount Batur Sunset Trek wearing nothing but flip-flops, singlet, and for some reason, luggage.

Here is a simple checklist to get you prepared for your trek so you can climb to the summit and make it an enjoyable adventure:

  • A small day pack / backpack
  • A sweater / hoodie / jacket. Trust me, it’s way colder up there.
  • A water bottle. Sometimes there will be vendors, but not always.
  • Spare socks in case your feet get soaked.
  • Durable shoes (that you’re willing to get dirty)
