If our Mount Batur Sunrise Jeep Tour sounds good in theory but the 2 or 3 AM hotel pickup sounds too ambitious, this is the better option.
Our Mount Batur Sunset Jeep Tour gives you a very similar experience, without the early start.
You’ll still explore the black lava fields around Mount Batur by private 4WD jeep, enjoy the volcanic scenery, and catch some incredible views, just later in the day as the light starts to soften toward sunset.
It’s a great option if you want the Mount Batur jeep experience without hiking, without waking up in the middle of the night, and without sacrificing an entire morning in Bali.
Batur Sunset Jeep Tour

Our Mount Batur Sunset Jeep Tour is a private 4WD experience around the base of Mount Batur, designed for people who want the volcano views without waking up at 2:00 AM.
Instead of leaving in the middle of the night, you’ll head up at 4:00 PM, jump into a private jeep, and explore the black lava fields and volcanic landscape around Mount Batur.
The route takes you through one of the most dramatic parts of the Kintamani and Batur, with huge lava rock formations, wide mountain views, and plenty of photo stops along the way.
The tour finishes with sunset rather than sunrise, so the whole experience feels a lot more relaxed. You still get the off-road jeep adventure and the iconic Mount Batur scenery, just without the 2 AM alarm.
What You’ll See on the Jeep Tour

The private Mount Batur Sunset Jeep Tour takes you through the same volcanic landscape as our sunrise jeep tour, just later in the day and with a much more civilised start time.
On this tour, you’ll see:
- Black lava fields from past Mount Batur eruptions
- Off-road jeep tracks around the base of the volcano
- Mount Batur up close from different viewpoints
- Wide views across Kintamani and the surrounding mountains
- Sunset over the volcanic landscape instead of sunrise
This is very similar to our Mount Batur Sunrise Jeep Tour. You’ll still explore the black lava area by 4WD jeep, stop for photos, and enjoy the dramatic volcanic scenery without doing the hike.
Optional Day Tour Upgrade

Your standard Mount Batur Sunset Jeep Tour already includes private hotel pickup and drop-off, so if you just want to head straight to Kintamani for the jeep experience, that’s absolutely fine.
But if you’d like to make a full day of it, you can upgrade your booking to include a private Bali day tour before the jeep tour begins.
Instead of going straight to our Mount Batur basecamp, your driver can take you around Ubud or East Bali first, then finish the day with the sunset jeep experience at Mount Batur.
Popular East Bali & Ubud Stops:
- Tirta Gangga: A former royal water palace with fountains, fish ponds, and those famous stepping stones.
- Ulu Petanu Waterfall: A scenic waterfall near Ubud with a short walk down and a quieter jungle setting.
- Tegalalang Rice Terraces: Ubud’s most famous rice terraces, with layered green views just north of Ubud.
- Virgin Beach: One of East Bali’s nicest white sand beaches, great for a relaxed beach stop before heading to Kintamani.
- Candi Tebing Gunung Kawi: An ancient temple complex carved into the rock, reached via a scenic staircase through the valley.
- Tukad Cepung Waterfall: A unique waterfall hidden inside a cave-like canyon, especially nice when the light hits properly.
- Penglipuran Village: A traditional Balinese village known for its tidy bamboo-lined streets and preserved layout.
- Bali Pulina: A popular stop near Kintamani where you can try Balinese coffee and tea with a jungle valley view.
This is a great option if you want to make the most of the day. The itinerary is completely flexible, so whether you want to visit a waterfall, temple, rice terrace, or coffee plantation before the jeep tour, just let your driver know.

Batur Sunset Jeep Tour FAQs
Here are a few quick answers to the questions I get most often about our Mount Batur Sunset Jeep Tour, including what’s included, the experience, and fine details.
What time does the Batur Sunset Jeep Tour start?
Our Mount Batur Jeep Tour at sunset starts at 4:00 PM, with pickup time depending on where you’re staying in Bali. Exact pickup details will be confirmed after booking, but the goal is to arrive at our Mount Batur basecamp at 4:00 PM.
How long does the Batur Sunset Jeep Tour take?
From basecamp to the summit and back takes around 3 hours. The entire booking including transfers takes around 5 to 6 hours. If you choose to make it a full day tour, you are allocated 12 hours.
Does the Batur Sunset Jeep Tour include hotel transfers?
Yes. This booking includes private hotel or villa pickup and drop-off with one of our English-speaking local drivers in a 6-seater air-conditioned SUV.
Where does the Batur Sunset Jeep Tour start?
The jeep part of the tour starts from our Mount Batur basecamp in Kintamani. If you book the standard option, we’ll pick you up from your hotel or villa first and drive you there.
This is a fully private tour. Your hotel transfers are private, and your Mount Batur sunset jeep experience is also private for your booking only.
Will I get to see the black lava fields on the sunset jeep tour?
Yes. The black lava fields are one of the main highlights of the Mount Batur Sunset Jeep Tour, and you’ll explore this volcanic area by 4WD jeep during the experience.
Will I be riding in an actual jeep?
I recommend bringing comfortable clothes, proper footwear, a light jacket, and your phone or camera. It can be cooler in Kintamani later in the day, especially once the sun starts to drop.
Can children do the Batur Sunset Jeep Tour?
Yes, children can do the Batur Jeep Tour at sunset. It’s much easier physically than the sunrise trek because there’s no hiking involved, but the jeep ride can be bumpy in parts, so it’s best suited to children who are comfortable with that.
Is the Batur Sunset Jeep Tour suitable for seniors?
For many seniors, yes. This tour is far more accessible than the Mount Batur sunrise hike because there’s no trekking involved. That said, the jeep ride can be rough and bumpy in places, so it depends on the person’s mobility and comfort level.
Can I ask my jeep driver to take photos?
Of course. If you’d like some photos during the tour, just ask your jeep driver and they’ll usually be happy to help when you stop at viewpoints or the black lava area.
