Book a Private Lovina Day Tour with Dolphin Watching

Booking a Lovina Dolphin Watching Tour is a must if you’re planning on exploring North Bali. Take this opportunity to get up close and observe the magical dolphins that visit Lovina’s coastal waters.

This booking is a perfect combination of excitement, nature, and culture all in one day. It is a fully private tour, with your own boat and captain, and a private SUV and driver to explore the rest of Lovina and North Bali.

I partnered with one of the best Lovina Dolphin Watching operators in Lovina to get you the best price and value without any of the expensive markups or misleading prices you’ll find with online travel agencies.

You can modify your destinations you want to visit during the day. So if there is somewhere else you have in mind that’s not included below, my drivers are flexible and the day is entirely up to you.

Lovina Dolphin Watching Tour Overview

This Lovina Dolphin Watching Tour is done with a private boat and captain, so you are not packed in with random strangers shouting “there!” every five seconds. It is just you, your group, and someone who actually knows where dolphins like to hang out.

Once you leave Lovina Beach, it takes around 20 to 30 minutes to reach the usual dolphin spots. Have your phone or camera ready early. Dolphins do not wait for you to unlock your screen.

You will usually spot small groups popping up regularly, but your captain’s main goal is finding the big surfacing group, which can be 30 to 50 dolphins at once.

This part takes patience, but when they rise together, especially close to the boat, it is worth the early alarm clock.

As you head out, you get the Lovina sunrise behind the mountains and that soft orange glow on the ocean that makes everyone suddenly very quiet. It is one of those moments where nobody checks Instagram.

Total time on the water is around 2 to 2.5 hours. Even during the slower stretches while your captain is tracking the dolphins, the view back toward the Lovina coastline from the sea is part of the experience. Calm water, fresh air, and zero traffic. Not a bad way to start the day.

Optional Swimming with Dolphins

Observe the dolphins underwater

In the booking form below, you have the option to include swimming with dolphins as part of the Lovina Dolphin Watching Tour. It’s a great way to observe the dolphins underwater instead of waiting to spot them on the surface.

This allows you to hang on the side of the boat in the water as it moves. You’ll be equipped with snorkelling gear so you can see underwater and watch the dolphins play and interact with each other.

Banjar Hot Springs

Air Panas Banjar, or Banjar Hot Springs, is a popular holy hot spring close to Lovina. The sulfur-rich pools are known to have healing properties hence why it’s also a place of worship. Aside from the relaxing water, the place is designed with intricate Balinese architecture.

You can make your way here after your Lovina Dolphin Watching Tour but I would recommend saving it for the end of your trip because you will definitely want a nap after spending some time relaxing in the hot springs.

The entrance fee to Air Panas Banjar is 45k IDR per person and you can stay as long as you wish. There is also a restaurant that serves Indonesian food and shops at the entrance if you need to buy a towel or swimming clothes.

Brahmavihara-Arama Buddhist Temple

Explore the Brahmavihara-Arama Buddhist Temple

Just a short drive from Air Panas Banjar is Brahmavihara-Arama, the largest Buddhist temple in Bali. It is a beautiful site to explore with picturesque views from every angle.

You can choose to head directly here with your driver after the Lovina Dolphin Watching experience.

The entrance fee to Brahmavihara-Arama Buddhist Temple is 25k IDR per person. You’ll also be provided a sarong which is recommended to wear inside the temple grounds.

Aling-Aling Waterfall

No Bali day tour is complete with sneaking in a waterfall. The closest waterfall to Lovina is Aling-Aling Waterfall, which is among my list of best waterfalls in Bali.

I highly suggest visiting here if you don’t plan on visiting North Bali anytime soon.

The entrance fee to Aling-Aling waterfall is 20k IDR per person. If you’re feeling adventurous and want to cliff jump into the water like the photo above, then it’s 125k IDR which includes a local guide.

Optional Destinations Near Lovina

Here are a few of my recommendations for things to do in Lovina (or nearby in North Bali) if you don’t want to visit any of the destinations above. You can stop at these on your way back from Lovina.

  • Gitgit Waterfall
  • One of the easiest waterfalls to reach in North Bali. Short walk, big flow, and a good first stop if you want waterfalls without a workout.
  • Banyumala Waterfall
  • A twin waterfall tucked into the jungle with clear pools at the bottom. Slightly more effort to reach, but one of the prettiest waterfalls in the area.
  • Ulun Danu Beratan Temple
  • The famous floating temple on Lake Beratan. Cooler weather, iconic photos, and one of Bali’s most photographed temples for a reason.
  • Bali Handara Gate
  • The classic split gate backed by misty mountains. Quick photo stop that works best early or mid-day before crowds build up.
  • Bali Farm House
  • A casual stop with animal encounters, garden paths, and family-friendly vibes. Easy add-on if you are travelling with kids.
  • Bali Botanical Garden
  • Huge open green space with walking trails, lakes, and fresh mountain air. Good place to slow things down after a busy morning.
  • Wanagiri Hidden Hill
  • Hilltop viewpoints overlooking twin lakes with photo platforms and swings. Tourist-heavy, but the views are genuinely solid.
  • Leke Leke Waterfall
  • Narrow jungle path leading to a tall, elegant waterfall. One of the better-looking waterfalls closer to South Bali on the way back.

Although you can encounter the dolphins during any time of the day, you’re almost always guaranteed to see them during the morning hours. I recommend arriving at Lovina Beach by 5:30 – 5:45 am to make the most out of the experience.

Is the Lovina Dolphin Watching Tour private or shared?

The entirety of the tour is fully private. You can enjoy the Lovina Dolphin Watching experience in the privacy of your own boat and captain, and the entire day in the comfort of your own private SUV and driver.

What should I bring on the Lovina Dolphin Watching Tour?

Pack some sunscreen, charge your phone, and bring some swimming clothes and towels if you plan to go for a dip in the hot springs at Air Panas Banjar or swimming with dolphins.

I’ve personally never gotten wet during the Lovina Dolphin Watching Tour. If anything, you’ll get a few small drops or splashes from waves. Otherwise, you’ll remain perfectly dry during the entire tour.

Children will absolutely love the Lovina Dolphin Watching experience – especially being out in the ocean. The rest of the tour is also quite kid-friendly.

Of course! Your private car and driver are all yours for 12 hours. You can choose to explore the destinations I recommended above, or explore neighboring regions like Bedugul or Singaraja if time permits.

Dolphin watching in Lovina doesn’t require much physical activity. Even boarding the small boat is quite simple. The other optional stops on the tour are also senior-friendly.

About Dolphins in Lovina

The dolphins you see in Lovina are mostly spinner dolphins, with the occasional bottlenose dolphin showing up too.

They are not trained, fed, or controlled in any way. These are wild dolphins doing dolphin things, just conveniently close to shore.

Lovina sits along a calm stretch of North Bali coastline where the sea drops off fairly quickly. That deeper water brings in small fish and squid early in the morning, which is basically a dolphin breakfast buffet.

The calmer seas here also make it easier for dolphins to travel and surface, especially just after sunrise. That is why dolphin watching happens so early.

Dolphins are most active at dawn when they are feeding and moving in groups. By mid morning, they head further offshore and the show is pretty much over. Early alarm clock, big payoff.

It is popular because Lovina is one of the most reliable places in Bali to see dolphins in the wild. You do not need snorkelling, diving, or any special skills.

You sit on a boat, watch nature do its thing, and usually go home with photos that do not look like a zoomed-in grey dot.

Is it touristy? Yes. Is it popular for a reason? Also yes. When 50 dolphins surface together beside your boat, it makes sense why this has become one of North Bali’s most talked-about experiences.
