If you’re comfortable riding a scooter in Bali, this is one of the easier cross-town rides.

The biggest challenge is traffic. Getting out of Kuta can be busy, particularly around Dewa Ruci, the airport, and the Ngurah Rai Bypass, so ride defensively and don’t expect a completely relaxed cruise.

Two Scooter Route Options to Nusa Dua

• Bali Mandara Toll Road: This is the quickest way to reach Nusa Dua. The dedicated motorcycle lane lets you skip most of the airport and Jimbaran traffic, and the ride across the water is pretty unique. You’ll need a prepaid e-money card, and the motorcycle toll costs IDR 5,500.
• Ngurah Rai Bypass via Jimbaran (Free): If you don’t have an e-money card, simply stay on the bypass through Jimbaran. It’s completely free, but travel times can increase quite a bit once afternoon traffic builds.

You can get from Kuta to Nusa Dua using public transport, but I honestly wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re travelling on a really tight budget and have plenty of time.

There isn’t a simple direct bus between the two areas in 2026.

You’ll need to use the Trans Metro Dewata network, and depending on where you’re staying, you may also need to walk or use another form of transport just to reach the nearest bus stop.

• Very cheap: A single trip costs around IDR 4,400, making it by far the cheapest way to travel between Kuta and Nusa Dua.
• No direct route: You’ll need to change buses, which makes the journey much longer than travelling by car, scooter, or taxi.
• Not ideal with luggage: These buses are built for commuters, not tourists with large suitcases, surfboards, or several bags.
• Longer travel time: While a taxi can often make the trip in 30 to 45 minutes outside peak traffic, public transport can easily take 2 hours or more depending on connections and waiting times.

💡 My advice: Unless you’re travelling with just a small backpack and want to save every dollar possible, I’d skip public transport for this route. Grab, Gojek, a taxi, or a private transfer will get you there much faster and with a lot less hassle.

Once the afternoon traffic dies down, the drive becomes a lot more predictable.

Roads around the airport, Jimbaran, and the Ngurah Rai Bypass are usually much quieter, so it’s common for the journey to take 20 to 30 minutes.

• Kuta can still be busy: Areas around Legian Street, Beachwalk, and the main nightlife strip stay lively well into the evening. If you’re leaving after dinner on a Friday or Saturday, expect a little extra traffic getting out of Kuta before things open up.
• Toll road is even more worthwhile: At night, the Bali Mandara Toll Road is usually a very quick run into Nusa Dua. If your driver uses it, you’ll normally avoid almost all of the traffic through Jimbaran.
• Grab, Gojek, and taxis are easy to find: Even late at night you’ll usually have no trouble getting a ride. The only exception is around closing time for popular bars and clubs, when demand briefly spikes and fares can increase.
