That might sound close on a map, but in Bali, distance means very little in 2026. Traffic is really what matters.

For most travellers, the journey takes anywhere from 40 minutes to over 2 hours, depending on when you leave.

If you’re travelling during the afternoon or evening, especially on weekends, it’s completely normal for the final few kilometres into Canggu to take longer than the entire first half of the journey.

💡 Pro Tip: If you’re travelling to Canggu from Jimbaran on a check-in day, try to leave before 2:00 PM or after 8:30 PM. Those are usually the easiest windows to avoid the worst of the west coast traffic.

The route is relatively straightforward and follows major roads for most of the journey. However, traffic can be heavy and this is not a route I’d recommend for first-time scooter riders in Bali.

Navigating Traffic Through Kuta & Kerobokan

Once you leave Jimbaran, you’ll pass through some of Bali’s busiest urban areas before reaching Canggu.

• Heavy traffic is normal: Expect congestion around Kuta, Sunset Road and Kerobokan throughout most of the day.
• Stay alert at intersections: Many of the busiest junctions on this route can feel chaotic, especially during peak hours.
• Allow extra time: Even on a scooter, traffic can still slow your journey considerably.

Travelling with Luggage

A scooter works well if you’re travelling light, but it becomes less practical once luggage is involved.

• Backpacks are fine: Most travellers carrying a backpack or small day bag will have no issues.
