Campuhan Ridge Walk – Ubud’s Best Hiking Trail [2025]

Tucked away in the heart of Ubud, the Campuhan Ridge Walk is one of Ubud’s most iconic trails and among the best things to do in Ubud for nature lovers.

This scenic trail perfectly captures the essence of Bali’s natural beauty – with panoramic views of lush valleys, rolling hills, and vibrant greenery.

Visit Campuhan Ridge Walk during my Ubud Day Tour, or head there for a leisurely uphill stroll sunrise hours if you’re already staying in Ubud.

The Campuhan trail offers a serene escape into nature and has become a favorite spot for walkers, joggers, fitness enthusiasts, and photographers.

The path now known as Campuhan Ridge Walk wasn’t always a tourist destination. It was initially developed as a rural passage and used by locals. As Ubud visitors began seeking peaceful escapes, the trail was upgraded to what it is now.

Where is Campuhan Ridge Walk?

Campuhan Ridge Walk Ubud Location

The Campuhan Ridge Walk is located just a short distance from the center of Ubud on Jalan Raya Campuhan.

Your journey will begin at Pura Gunung Lebah (Gunung Lebah Temple) which is accessed from Jalan Raya Ubud.

The entrance to the trail is easy to find. Look for a small sign directing you toward Gunung Lebah Temple, which also marks the starting point of the Campuhan trail.

Other landmarks to look for at the entrance of the road are Ibah Resort and Mini Mart, on both sides.

How to get to Campuhan Ridge Walk?

How to get to Campuhan Ridge Walk

Regardless of the area of Ubud you’re in, the trail is quite easy to get to. Just around the corner is Ubud Palace, Saraswati Temple, Ubud Art Market, and Blanco Museum.

If you’re renting a scooter in Bali and headed to the trail, there is parking at the temple for a small fee of IDR 5k. I suggest navigating to Pura Gunung Lebah on Google Maps.

If you’re staying further south in Bali in places like Canggu, Seminyak, Nusa Dua, or Uluwatu, I wouldn’t go out of my way to experience the trail. This is more of an ideal destination if you’re already staying in Ubud or visiting for the day.

What is Campuhan Ridge Walk Entrance Fee?

Campuhan Ridge Walk Entrance Fee

There is no entrance fee to visit Campuhan Ridge Walk – it’s completely free and makes it one of the best free things to do in Ubud for tourists who are seeking budget-friendly attractions.

You can enjoy the trail, the surroundings, and the views, without spending a single Indonesian Rupiah. If you do plan on stopping at one of the cafes or warungs for a bite, make sure to bring some extra IDR cash.

What to expect at Campuhan Ridge Walk

Walking the Campuhan trail starts with a gentle uphill climb but most of it is fairly flat afterward. It’s an easy journey for most fitness levels.

As you traverse through the path, you’ll be treated with lush greenery all around – overhanging trees, bushes, coconut trees, and grass. Along the way, you’ll pass a few makeshift food stalls selling local food and drink.

Most of the path is paved and well-maintained. The entire route is approximately 2 kilometers one way so you can choose how far you feel like going depending on your energy level.

When to visit Campuhan Ridge Walk?

While Bali’s sunsets remain unbeatable, there’s nothing quite like experiencing the sunrise in Bali.

Head out for a leisurely stroll before breakfast to catch the sunrise from the hill. The weather will be much cooler and the light will be softer – perfect for taking photos. During these hours, the ridge will also be less crowded. Everyone’s still sleeping I suppose.

Witness the sunset on the trail is also quite a pleasant experience. There’s a magical glow to the environment that reminds you that you’re in paradise.

I would suggest avoiding midday hours. Bali’s sun can be intense and while there are random spots where you can catch some shade, I doubt you’d want to stay there for the entirety of the day.

About Gunung Lebah Temple

Gunung Lebah Temple

Right at the entrance of Campuhan Ridge Walk is the Pura Gunung Lebah (Gunung Tebah Temple). It’s a tranquil and sacred Balinese site that’s still being used as a place of worship for the Balinese.

The history of the temple is still uncertain but it’s said to have been established in the 8th century – not sure how factual that is, but we can go with that. The temple is a stunning example of traditional Balinese architecture with intricate carvings and shrines.

Gunung Lebah Temple isn’t exactly a tourist attraction. Visitors are welcome to admire its beauty from the outside and respectfully observe ceremonies if there are any. If you’re looking to exploring more temples on your itinerary, see my guide on the Best Temples in Bali.

Campuhan Ridge Walk with Bicycle

Here’s a lesser known way of making your way through the path. Turn the experience up a notch and tackle the Campuhan trail with a bicycle.

Rent a bicycle and go cycling through the natural beauty of Ubud and stop to enjoy the greenery and breathtaking views.

Keep in mind since the Campuhan trail is narrow at some parts, it can sometimes be crowded with pedestrians (depending on the time of day). Take your time and be mindful of walkers.

I recommend Made Bicycle Rent in Ubud. Bicycle rentals start from IDR 40k per day – a reasonable deal. But you’ll have to pick them up yourself.

Campuhan Ridge Walk Swing

The possible existence of a swing

There is in fact a small swing about half way through the Campuhan trail. Although, this isn’t an officially recognized attraction like the more iconic Bali Swings.

The problem here is there aren’t any official operating hours and no contact information if you do feel like going for a swing. However, if you’re lucky enough to come across the staff on location, it’s IDR 100k for a swing over the ridge at Campuhan Ridge Walk.

Tips for visiting Campuhan Ridge Walk
